Sonia Villalón
Sonia Villalón brings more than 24 years of experience in environmental conservation, sustainability, operational management and international trade across Latin America. Her career began in 2002 at EcoEra Reserve, a tropical rainforest ecological reserve in Costa Rica, where she served as General Manager and led environmental education programs for student groups from the United States and Europe. Her work included conservation, ecosystem restoration and reforestation activities, promoting greater awareness of the protection of tropical forests and the importance of natural resources for future generations.
Throughout her career she has built extensive expertise in sourcing, operations and commercial relationships, establishing links between Latin American producers and industrial sectors across different markets. Her work has been focused on advancing the use of plant-based renewable resources, strengthening responsible supply chains and fostering alternatives that contribute to reducing dependence on fossil-based materials.
Convinced that industrial progress must advance in harmony with the environment, she has dedicated a large part of her career to promoting solutions based on renewable resources, guided by the vision of contributing to a better world for future generations and fostering a return to materials that reconnect us with Mother Nature and her regenerative processes.
In April 2026 she founded Pacha Fibers, with the mission of connecting the wealth of plant-based fibers from Latin America with companies around the world. The company specializes in abaca, pineapple and banana fibers, and also incorporates plant-derived biopolymers as part of an offering aimed at advancing renewable materials for a more sustainable and planet-friendly economy.
